Yes. The wheat bag is safe to use during pregnancy, it works as an effective and drug free pain relief during pregnancy, during contractions and labour. The heat is isolated to the specific area of use and does not increase the overall body temperature. Post birth the wheat bag can assist in breast feeding as well as warm the cot or pram before putting the baby down. Do not apply heat directly onto the belly area and always consult your doctor is you are unsure.
Wheat grain has a natural moisture content but continual heating will eventually dry this moisture out and the wheat will begin to cook and eventually burn. To prevent this it is important to keep your wheat bag hydrated by occasionally placing a heat proof container of water alongside the bag. Alternatively sprinkle with water before heating.
The inner bag reacts with moisture from the wheat inside as it would with any fabric used. As it's made from unbleached cotton the slight discolouration is more visible than on a darker shade. We have chosen not to go with a darker or dyed fabric as it's would not be as environmentally friendly.
The wheat bag is CE marked and assessed to meet EU health and safety requirements. It contains only natural materials which are safe to heat as per our instructions. We have taken every precaution to make our product as safe to use as possible, by providing safety instructions both on the box and on the item itself. As long as these guidelines are maintained there is no cause for concern.
If the wheat pack is not rehydrated as per instructions above it will dry out over time and start to emit a cooked/burnt smell. The most common reason for a wheat bag to burn is either by overheating after the wheat dries out, or the microwave turntable is prevented from rotating correctly. When the turntable cannot move the radiation heat energy will be concentrated on a single area which can cause a burn on the fabric. Always make sure the turntable can rotate freely by giving it a spin before heating your wheat bag. If your wheat bag smells burned it should not be used. Place on a non-combustible surface such as a sink or kitchen bench, and let the Wheat Bag completely cool down before discarding.
When used regularly the Wheat Bag can be stored in room temperature where you please. When not in use you can permanently store your Wheat Bag or Eye Pillow in a clean airtight container in the freezer.
Your wheat bag will last for several years if used and stored according our recommendations.
